BEREAVEMENT, GRIEF AND LOSS

More and more resources are becoming available to help bereaved pet owners.  This type of change in our lives can be difficult to accept.

Grief is a NATURAL response to loss.  It is an overwhelming range and depth of emotion experienced when we are bereaved.

For lovers of pets (whatever the species), as any family member, losing a pet can be a heartwrenching experience.  The death of a pet can leave a lasting void; the loss of such a precious bond and love is indescribable.

The course of grief is unpredictable and no two people will experience it in the same manner.  It often involves contradictory feelings, that come in waves.  Allow yourself to grieve and don't shy away from the pain or sadness you may feel.  There is no easy way around it and no shortcuts.  It impacts every part of our lives.

Making memorials is a powerful tool that allows us to honour and remember our pets.  Consider creating a personalised memorial for your pet such as, a memorial plaque, photos, engraved stone, a plant or, small garden dedicated to their memory.  These tangible tributes serve as a focal point for remembrance and can provide peace and closure.

Losing a pet can be a child's first encounter with death.  Children need love patience, honesty, open communication and reassurance.

Should you feel overwhelmed or struggling to find the right words and need support in this difficult time, we provide assistance and grief counseling.  This can be accessed via phone, skype or in person.
